Kristen Trost Mantlo, is a native of Virginia Beach and a current Doctoral Candidate at Old Dominion University, working on her Ph.D. in Health Services Research. She received her Masters of Social Services ('10) from Bryn Mawr College, in Pennsylvania and her Bachelors of Psychology ('08) and Bachelors of Social Work ('09) from James Madison University. She is passionate about children’s health issues and has focused her over six-years of non-profit experience in this area. Using her education in social services and certification in non-profit management, she helped found the non-profit SMILE (Samantha Makes It a Little Easier) in 2010.
As the Executive Director of SMILE, Kristen leads a group of dedicated local professionals in the organization's mission to enhance the lives of children impacted by life threatening conditions; through education, encouragement, and empowerment. In her spare time, Kristen enjoys playing kickball, camping and kayaking with her husband, and traveling as much as possible both nationally and internationally.
