The P40 Network had the pleasure of interviewing rising MMA star and P40 member, Bubba "The Highlight Kid" Jenkins, in Richmond, Virginia as he prepared for his first professional commentating debut. As we entered his backstage dressing room we were greeted by Jenkins who is sporting a million dollar smile and enough charisma to outshine any Hollywood star. It catches you off guard to meet an individual who is legally a walking weapon, yet so kind and welcoming. After a quick chat and introduction we finally began the interview. Within five minutes, his mother and manager Teresa, enters the room to wish her son luck. This is a familiar ritual between him and his mother and has happened every game and every match throughout his athletic career. As a youth, Jenkins showed signs of great mental fortitude and discipline, quickly becoming one of Hampton Roads' finest athletes in the country, winning 14 national titles since the age of nine!
After winning virtually every wrestling championship imaginable in high school, Bubba decided to take his talents to Penn State University where he wrestled his way to a NCAA National Championship Final, while also winning the gold medal in the 2008 Junior World Championships in Beijing, China. In 2011, after transferring to Arizona State University, he captured his first NCAA National Championship, ironically pinning Penn State's undefeated finalist David Taylor. After an incredible college career which consisted of 96 wins, Jenkins naturally stepped into the octagon and became one of the most sought after fighters in the world. In 2012, it was announced that Jenkins joined Jon Jones' coaching staff on the seventeenth season of the UFC produced reality television series, The Ultimate Fighter. Since then, Bubba has competed at the highest level and stayed in the race for a Bellator Lightweight Championship.
Despite all of his success, he has stayed level-headed and humble. He knows where his blessings come from, and proudly walks in his faith. In the video below, Bubba shares some useful tips with The P40 Network. Enjoy!
